Skin Care Notes

What happens when a potentially toxic substance passes the skin’s barrier? It ends up in blood vessels and lymph ducts located in the epidermis and dermis layer. Skin cells get their nutrients and excrete toxins thanks to an endless circulation of blood and lymph. Lymph, a colorless fluid made of plasma, performs a vitally important drainage function since it provides white blood cells that produce antibodies to fight infection. According to new studies, our skin can absorb up to 60% of substances applied to its surface. Not to confuse with 100% natural products which get absorbs 100% without damaging your body.

As chemicals are absorbed, they enter the bloodstream and travel with lymph across the body, to be eventually filtered out by the liver and flushed away by the kidneys. However, some substances remain inside the body, adding to the system toxic load that can accumulate for decades. Since the skin is the largest organ in our body, it soaks up contaminants in much larger amounts than the intestines or lungs

What does “Green” mean; sounds like an easy question, but I rarely get the right answer. So I try to spread awareness about our lives and mother Earth. I feel “The green movement” that we are experiencing does not mean what I think “green” should be. For most people it means reduce waste, and energy. For me it goes beyond all this. Being “Green” should mean we only use matters that are from the Earth, food supply without chemicals and pesticide as well as food that is from the areas where we live. Be more self sufficient. We should ban (personal choice) in our lives, all products that contains man made ingredients and this goes for all products we use in our daily lives. It is not a change that will happen overnight, but step by step, we can heal the planet and reverse the damage done. Just like you can reverse the damage you have done to your body by changing your lifestyle and your choices of good food and good products for you. You will be rewarded by an outstanding look and excellent health.Health is wealth!

This will take some adaptation, using skin care products made from 100% Natural ingredients, when we say 100% Natural, we mean from the Earth, will take a period of adjustment.  It is like when you switch to Herbal Toothpaste, instead of commercial toothpaste. Some people feel like their teeth are not being clean because they don’t have that antiseptic feeling, or that bleached clean feeling!

I have been using Herbal toothpaste since 5 years of age. And my teeth are doing great, recently I was so busy and tired, I kept forgetting to go buy my toothpaste, which is not available just anywhere. So, at home, I used my husband`s toothpaste. Not long after I started using his, I had serious pain in one of my teeth, after a visit to my dentist, they could not find anything wrong except a sensitive tooth and she suggested that I use Sensodine. When I went to the drugstore and read the ingredient of sensodine, I decided not to buy the toothpaste and decided to put up with the pain for awhile and finally bought my regular Herbal toothpaste. After 2 days of use, I notice my pain went away. Then I realized how harsh commercial toothpaste are, it is abrasive on my gums and teeth! And, the problem has completely gone away since I returned to herbal toothpaste.

I also have a small anectote about natural toothpaste. Recently I was away and again I forgot my herbal toothpaste. So I went in a drugstore and looked for natural toothpaste, I could only find Tom’s from Maine Natural toothpaste. I just grabbed it. When I used it, it didn’t feel like a natural toothpaste at all! So I looked at the ingredients on the box, I was shocked to see that the second ingredients was Sodium Lauryl Sulfate ! This toothpaste had natural all over the packging and in a special section for natural products! I I was so mad that this product was claiming natural, they only natural thing this toothpaste had, was no fluoride!  I decided to find out more as I keep saying that we as consumers are ignorant and vulnerable to marketing, just the way manufacturing companies want us to be!  So I checked it out on the skin deep web site http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/ and I found out, that this toothpaste is made and own by Colgate-Palmolive Company!

It is like Bert’s Bee products, people think they are buying a small handcraft product company, but in reality Bert’s Bee's which was a company pursuing a green mentality was just purchased in November 2007 by the Clorox Company seeing an opportunity to mass produce these items and place them in big box stores.

Again, this shows you how much you need to read the label and most of all, you need to be aquaintained with the list of bad ingredients. I can not myself remember all the bad ingredients, so since I have copyed this list into my electronic agenda and when I by a product I look at the list.

Using a natural moisturiser will be an adjustment as well, but all worth it!
